what we do
Blue Steel Ballistics is a mobile app that enables you as a shooter to achieve first round hits at distant targets. To obtain a firing solution, the user inputs a description of their rifle, the characteristics of the ammo, a description of atmospheric conditions, and range geometry. Blue Steel Ballistics then calculates the trajectory and produces a firing solution.
how we do it
Many ballistic solvers use simple formulas based on approximations that were developed before the advent of computers. Sadly, many of them do not make use of the horsepower available in modern mobile devices. Blue Steel Ballistics starts with the three-dimensional equations of motion and integrates them in a stepwise fashion to assemble a set of waypoints that define the trajectory of interest. The final point of impact cannot be predicted by any simple formula. A full numerical solution based on the gritty details of calculus and differential equations is required to obtain the accuracy required in long range shooting.
